At Physiostation, we offer a sports massage service provided by expert Chartered Physiotherapists with additional sports massage and advanced manual therapy qualifications.
Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but to anybody wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury.
You do not need to be a sports performer to benefit from a sports massage. The benefits above can also help relieve the many day to day problems we all experience from time to time, including repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension and fatigue. If you are a sports performer, of any level, a sports specific massage can be beneficial at various stages of participation. For example:
- Conditioning / training phase
- Post travel
- Injury prevention
- Injury recovery
WHAT TO EXPECT
At your initial appointment the physiotherapist will complete an assessment to ensure that sports massage is an appropriate treatment. This will include a medical screening questionnaire, a discussion about any particular injuries that you may be experiencing, and an assessment of your movement.
The sports massage treatment will include a variety of soft tissue manual therapy techniques. We offer 30 and 60 minute appointments depending on the number of areas that you wish to be treated. We would usually recommend that one large body part, such as legs or back, would require 30 minutes, while 2 or more large body areas would usually take 60 minutes. A full list of our treatment options can be viewed on our price list page.
At Physiostation we believe that sports massage should be pain free, and, although the movement of painful areas may be a little uncomfortable, we endeavour to use techniques that minimise any discomfort whilst maximising treatment benefits.
As our sports massage treatments are provided by experienced Chartered physiotherapists, you will also benefit from our knowledge of the complete rehabilitation process. As a result, where appropriate, we aim to offer guidance on appropriate exercise to compliment the sports massage and therefore maximise its benefits.
Regardless of your experiences in sport or exercise, whether you exercise socially or compete to an International level, sports massage can have something to offer you. The specialists at Physiostation would be happy to discuss if sports massage may be beneficial for you.
